This multi-layered northern itinerary will literally and metaphorically cover much ground and traverse: the cosmopolitan and sophisticated capital of Rabat, home to Robert Trent Jones’ acclaimed Royal Dar Es Salaam (Red) course which hosts the Hassan II Trophy tournament for PGA Tour Champions and has also been a stop on the European tour; the picturesque mountain village of Ifrane—Morocco’s “Little Switzerland”—nestled in the Middle Atlas Mountains and home to the spectacular Michlifen golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus; the spiritual capital and “soul of Morocco,” Fes, with its fantastic 8th century medina (old city) —a UNESCO World Heritage Site brimming with architectural marvels and incredible markets (souqs)—and nearby, historic Royal Golf Fes course designed by Cabell Robinson; the iconic, much-Instagrammed “Blue Pearl” village of Chefchaouen, snug in the wild Rif Mountains and rich in Jewish and Muslim heritage; the storied city of Tangier with its beatnik and libertine past, now remade into a modern, major port and Mediterranean luxury destination astride the Strait of Gibraltar…and the nearby seaside links course of Al Houara designed by Vijay Singh and Graham Marsh; and a final night in Casablanca, home to the magnificent Hassan II Mosque and replica of “Rick’s Cafe” preserved in an eponymous, fine-dining restaurant where the 1942 Bogart and Bergman film is memorialized.

souTHERN MOROCCO GOLF + CULTURE TOUR

This alternate curated tour focuses on select golf and cultural experiences in the Kingdom’s south, starting in the fabled “Rose City” of Marrakech. Home to more than a dozen championship courses, you’ll play three rounds of golf while here: at the legendary Royal Golf Marrakech with its forested, park-like setting, designed by Gustave Golias and Arnaud Massy and open for play since 1927; Assoufid, a challenging, undulating desert-style golf course designed by Scottish designer and former European Tour player, Niall Cameron; and the lush Fairmont Royal Palm golf course with the dramatic backdrop of The High Atlas Mountains, designed by Cabell Robinson. Before you hit the links, a guided tour of Marrakech’s medina (old city), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a private discussion with an expert on Moroccan history will offer fascinating cultural context to your tour. The “Windsurfing Capital of Africa,” Essaouira, situated along the Atlantic Coast with its small, charming, and “chill” medina, is the next destination. Here, you’ll play rounds at each of the two Gary Player-designed courses at Golf de Mogador where rolling sand dunes, natural coastal vegetation, views of the Atlantic—and its devilish winds—will test your skills. We’ll travel south along the coast for the final destination, just outside the hip surfing village of Taghezout. Rounds here will be at picturesque Tazegzout, designed by Kyle Phillips, where artistic clusters of native Argan trees and spectacular vistas of the Atlantic could be a distraction….The final 18 will be at the Championship Course at Golf du Soleil, designed by Fernando Muella and Gerard Courbin, is a “Florida Style” resort course beautifully bunkered with distinctive banked sand traps and a smattering of water-laden holes. Finish strong. For any non-golfers who may be accompanying players, parallel activities could include a cooking class, a pastry-making class, shopping-focused medina tours, spa treatments, or R&R poolside or at the beach.
